The Yawning Scream
Catalogue of experimental and expressionist movies,
mixed media, enamel paint, burned paper, burned film,
(single hand-made copy of a book), 2003
A piece of work inspired by a scene from “Person” by Bergman, where
the film itself bursts apart and melts away, unable to bear the tension
it carries. The book is the collection of movies where we can watch
the narration surface be torn apart and the void is unveiled beyond.
The movies are not connected by some positive features but rather
by an absence, yawning through the gaps in fabric of the picture.
The violence of mechanisms (and mechanisms of violence), the loss
of identity in a conspiracy of living mirrors and the inescapable split
in being of a person determined three kinds of sign deformation
and meaning catastrophes:
violence/mechanism
body/glass
mask/flesh
